Day Nine at Sea
This morning we went to class, ate lunch, took our usual one
hour nap, then we went to trivia. Oh, trivia. We bombed it. We finally lost
something haha a lot of us had a sufficient amounts of random knowledge but
most of the questions were more for the elderly people on the ship. I guess
it’s understandable since 90% of the people on this cruise are over 50 and you
really can’t please everyone but I definitely wish we had had some more
relevant questions that we could’ve gotten. Then we went to flash mob dance
class so that’s always fun. After that, Sam and Caitlin and I went and got some
food then Caleb and I attended Samba class. It’s kind of frustrating sometimes
because they just teach the basic steps to every dance since the clientele is
again mainly older. But he and I usually just make up our own stuff and dance
around the floor. I don’t have much experience doing Samba so that was good to
practice it.
After Samba, Caitlin and Sam and I went and hung out and
just talked and wrote our journal stuff for a little bit before bed. Then it
was dinner time. The boat was really rocky today so I actually got a headache
from how much it was rocking so I skipped dessert and went back to the room to
sleep. Apparently sea sickness can come in a variety of symptoms such as
allergy-like symptoms, nausea, and severe headaches. That was one of the worst
headaches I’ve ever had in my life but once I got some food in me and then went
to sleep for a little bit I felt a lot better. We take naps literally every day
at this point – sometimes for 2-3 hours but if you think about it, we’re all
still catching up from a restless semester, and we’ve already lost 5 hours so
far as we change time zones slowly – not to mention the fact that we go to bed
pretty late at night and have to get up for class every morning. I’m just
thankful we have the opportunity to take naps while we’re on the boat because I
know we’re going to be a lot more pressed for time once we’re in Europe!!
After I woke up from my evening nap, we went to karaoke
round 2! Mark dominated with some awesome Frank Sinatra renditions and then I
closed the evening out with Alicia Key’s “If I Ain’t Got You”. I’m pretty sure
attempting to sing Alicia Keys is a death wish but I think I held my own J Then after that I was
wide awake from sleeping for two hours after dinner so we went and watched our
friends play pool for a little bit then we went to the pool solarium for a late
night snack and we ended up having really deep conversations about
relationships for like 2 hours. Taylor, Tyler, Caitlin, Ari, Alex, Eric, and I
all sat around over pizza and hot chocolate sharing the stories of how we got
into the relationships that we were in and it was so awesome to get to know
more about these people and get to know deeper things about them. I love this
part of study abroad trips like this. Some people were more open than others
but it was just fun to hear and obviously I love hearing romantic stories J And Austin, you got
talked about so hope you don’t mind :P
That was it for day nine! Until next time,
MC
